Head of Business Intelligence
Join our client, a games studio delivering innovative online casino experiences, focused on high-definition, customer-centric excitement. As the Head of Business Intelligence, you will lead the analytics function across the business—from data ingestion and modelling through to analysis, reporting, predictive modelling, and AI-enabled analytics. You will manage a team of data analysts, analytics engineers, and data engineers, and partner closely with the executive team and managers across every function of the business to drive decisions at the highest level.
Your time will be split roughly evenly between three areas: team, stakeholder, and project management; data architecture; and hands-on high-value analytics work. Your stack includes Kafka, Spark on EMR, S3 data lake, Snowflake plus dbt for analytics engineering, Airflow for orchestration, and Tableau for reporting. This is an on-site role based in Malta; relocation is not offered. There is 1 vacancy.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the BI function, setting technical direction and best practices across data engineering, analytics engineering, and analytics.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of data analysts, analytics engineers, and data engineers.
- Partner with the executive team and managers across the business to identify, scope, and deliver high-value analytics opportunities.
- Own the end-to-end data architecture, from ingestion and modelling through to reporting, predictive modelling, and AI-enabled analytics.
- Deliver hands-on analysis on the most strategically important problems facing the business.
- Drive the adoption of predictive and AI-enabled analytics across every team.
- Translate complex analyses into clear, actionable recommendations for non-technical stakeholders up to and including the executive suite.
- Plan and prioritise the team's roadmap against competing demands from across the business.
Requirements
- Proven track record leading analytics or BI teams in industry.
- Strong SQL skills and deep familiarity with modern cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or similar).
- Hands-on experience across the full analytics stack — ingestion, modelling, reporting, and predictive modelling.
- Experience with dbt and modern analytics engineering practices.
- Programming skills in Python or R.
- Experience with Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
- Experience applying statistics and predictive modelling to industry problems.
- Excellent communication skills and a track record of working directly with executives and senior stakeholders.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- 7+ years' experience in analytics, with at least 3 years in a management role.
Nice to Have
- A degree in a quantitative subject, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with AWS (S3, Lambda, EMR, MWAA).
- Experience deploying ML or AI models in production.
- Experience integrating LLMs or AI tooling into analytics workflows.
- Experience within online gaming.
