Lead Database Administrator
You join our client, a leading provider of solutions for process manufacturers, chemical distributors, and engineers. In this Lead Database Administrator role, you will partner with product teams, developers, and the Principal Architect to manage, secure, and modernize our database environments. You’ll ensure reliability and performance while guiding migrations from legacy systems such as Microsoft Access to modern platforms. Based in Costa Rica, this remote (regional) position lets you work from home while collaborating with teams across our network. Relocation is not offered for this role.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data lake architectures to support analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision-making, including data ingestion pipelines and governance.
- Manage, monitor, and maintain databases across the organization, including Microsoft Access, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and other platforms.
- Maintain an inventory of databases with ownership, usage, and technology stacks; perform backups, restores, archiving, and schema updates.
- Ensure database availability, integrity, and reliability across all environments; monitor performance and implement improvements.
- Lead migration projects from Access to modern platforms; collaborate on strategies and timelines; document legacy structures.
- Partner with development teams to enforce database best practices, provide guidance, and maintain documentation and standards.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and audit logging; manage security controls and data governance in line with policy.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in database administration or related roles.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Access.
- Experience with database migration projects, especially Access to SQL Server.
- Proficiency in T-SQL, query optimization, and execution plan analysis.
- Experience with .NET application database interactions.
- Familiarity with database monitoring and alerting tools.
- Knowledge of backup, recovery, and archiving strategies; security and compliance practices.
